Sprandel, who has lived in Corry for 40 years, said the award was "humbling." She also said she believes in honoring a person before they pass away, so they can appreciate and enjoy the recognition.

Sprandel said if you want to volunteer, you should start small. "It doesn't have to be a big project," Sprandel said."Find some little thing in the community and step out." In addition to Sprandel's husband, other family members who were present when she received the award were her four children and their spouses, Donna and Keith Deutsch, Dianna Smith, Deborah and Michael Shontz and Michael and Rachael Smith; and four grandchildren, Josh, Megan, Chris and Craig Deutsch. Sprandel also has II grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
