Local nonprofit organizations are hoping 13 will be their luck number this year.

The third annual day of online giving -- Erie Gives Day -- will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Erie Gives is sponsored by the Erie Community Foundation and is the largest local charitable donation day of the year.
On Aug. 13, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., donors can make an online donation to as many of their favorite nonprofits as they wish by logging on to www.eriegives.org.

The Erie Community Foundation will enhance each donor's gift by providing a prorated match to each gift made to a nonprofit. The Foundation will divide a total of $150,000 ($100,000 provided by The Erie Community Foundation plus an additional $50,000 provided by GE Transportation) among the participating nonprofits. The more a nonprofit raises the more of the $150,000 the nonprofit will receive.

In 2012, the Foundation shared $76,000 among the participating nonprofits, along with an additional $25,000 from GE Transportation. In 12 hours, $1,126,803 was raised for local nonprofits.

In Corry, seven nonprofit organizations received a total of $3,725 in contributions from 24 donors, which includes the prorated match from the Foundation.

In Union City, even more donors stepped up. A total of 75 donors contributed $12,655 to support seven local nonprofits. That figure also includes the prorated match from the Erie Community Foundation.

The Union City Community Foundation, which is affiliated with the Erie Community Foundation, chipped in an additional $2,500 to the seven nonprofits, according to the level of giving.

Only organizations that are members of The Nonprofit Partnership or have an agency fund with The Erie Community Foundation are eligible.

Here are some of the local participants listed on the Erie Gives website: Corry Area Free Clinic, Corry Community Development Corp., Corry Community Foundation, Corry Counseling Services, Corry Higher Education Council, Corry Memorial Hospital, Corry Public Library Endowment, Corry Rotary Club and Corry YMCA.

Also, Union City Community Foundation, Union City Community House Association, Union City Family Support Center, Union City Pride Inc., Union City Public Library, Union City Senior Center Cooperative Inc., Union City Volunteer Fire Co, Early Connections Inc. and Safe Journey.

The minimum donation is $25, and there is no limit to the amount of money you may give. You may give to up to 10 nonprofits per transaction.

Only Visa, MasterCard and Discover will be accepted, and the credit card processor charges and nominal fee per transaction. Credit card gift cards will not be accepted.

The Erie Community Foundation does not receive any fees.
Donors will receive an email receipt of their gifts. Unless donors choose to remain anonymous, their donor information will be sent to the appropriate organizations.

The nonprofits will receive the donations plus the Erie Community Foundation's prorated match within two to four weeks of Erie Gives Day.
