Local nonprofits share in Erie Gives donations

Erie Gives Day more than lived up to its name on Tuesday, easily surpassing its fundraising record.

The one-day online giving event raised an unofficial total of $1,720,842 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the Erie Community Foundation, which sponsored the event for the third consecutive year. The official total will released by the foundation on Friday.

The total includes $150,000 added through a $100,000 matching donation from the Foundation and a $50,000 corporate match from GE Transportation that will be divided among the participating nonprofit groups.

Erie Gives Day raised $1,223,888 in 2012, and $776,014 in 2011.

Local nonprofit organizations benefited from the day of giving. Here are the unofficial totals, according to the Erie Give website:
* Corry Area Free Clinic, $49.
* Corry Community Development Corp., $509.
* Corry Community Foundation, $1,504.
* Corry Counseling Services, $49.
* Corry Higher Education Council, $485.
* Corry Memorial Hospital, $49.
* Corry Public Library Endowment, $407.
* CorryYMCA, $5,602.
* Union City Community Foundation, 5,424.
* Union City Community House Association, $146.
* Union City Family Support Center, $788.
* Union City Pride Inc., $631.
* Union City Historical Society and Museum, $582.
* Union City Public Library, $2,022.
* Union City Senior Center Cooperative Inc., $8,386.
* Union City Volunteer Fire Co., $558.
* Safe Journey, $267.

The Erie Community Foundation will distribute checks to the 322 participating nonprofits on Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. at the Erie Zoo.
