Trooper Jacques “Jay” Rougeau died in the line of duty on June 17, 2023, a day he went to work on his day off to assist his fellow troopers in an active shooter incident. “Jay drove toward danger to protect the rest of us. We should celebrate his heroism and never forget it,” said Governor Josh Shapiro.
Jay grew up in Corry and is remembered for his million-dollar smile. He attended Penn State, where he majored in criminal justice and worked as an intern with the City of Corry Police Department. In June 2020, Jay became a PA State Trooper. Throughout his career, Jay was a standout among his peers for his dedication to law enforcement and to the Corry community.
Following his passing, Jay’s friends and classmates established the Trooper Jacques “Jay” Rougeau Memorial Scholarship. Fundraisers were organized by the Corry Area High School girls volleyball and boys basketball teams as well as by the Cathedral Prep and McDowell High School basketball teams. These efforts have ensured Jay will touch the future of law enforcement through his scholarship and have allowed his memory to live on.
