Mary Alice Hammond has been empowering individuals and organizations for more than two decades. She believes true empowerment comes when intentions are converted into actions and has served on many community organizations including the Corry Area Fine Arts Auxiliary, the Corry Cancer Society, and the Women’s Garden of Serenity at the Corry Memorial Hospital, which is now LECOM.
Mary Alice joined the Corry Community Foundation board in the early 2000s and remains on the board as an emeritus member. Believing in the Foundation’s vision, Mary Alice and her husband opened the William and Mary Alice Hammond Fund in 2003. Their initial investment has grown to more than $100,000, which shows the benefit of providing unrestricted funds for a range of nonprofits.
When William passed away in 2017, Mary Alice began the William and Mary Alice Donor Designated Fund for the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Corry. This fund yields annual income for the Episcopal Church and has distributed close to $10,000 since 2017. The church will be able to access these funds in perpetuity. Mary Alice encourages others to establish an endowment to provide ongoing support for their favorite nonprofits or unrestricted funding to enhance the grants awarded annually to nonprofits by the Corry Community Foundation.
